New Jersey Wildfire Update: Dozens of Structures Threatened

One of several New Jersey wildfires is threatening dozens of structures in the upper part of the state, officials said on Saturday.
A dry spell across the Northeast has exacerbated drought and wildfire conditions across several states, and on Friday, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service warned of several fires that had broken out across The Garden State.
The whole state of New Jersey is currently under extreme fire danger, according to a map posted on the Forest Fire Service’s website.
Newsweek has reached out to the Forest Fire Service via email for comment on Saturday afternoon.
The wildfire in the Pompton Lakes area of Passaic County has burned through 100 acres, the Forest Fire Service said Saturday.
This fire in the upper part of the state has threatened 55 structures, according to the Forest Fire Service.
Officials said that the Forest Fire Service was fighting off the flames with a helicopter capable of dumping 350 gallons of water as well as fire engines and ground crews.
Meanwhile, local fire companies are protecting structures, according to officials.
A wildfire burning through the Bethany Run area on the border of Burlington County and Camden County was reported to be 90 percent contained.
Another wildfire in the borough of Glassboro, located in Gloucester County, was reported to be 75 percent contained.
Meanwhile, a wildfire in Englewood Cliffs—which is in Begen County, across the Hudson River from New York—was reported to be 40 percent contained.
As wildfires burned through New Jersey on Friday, the National Weather Service (NWS) issued a red flag warning for New York City.
“A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are expected or occurring. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and dry fuels will create a significantly elevated fire growth potential,” the NWS’s alert said.
The red flag warning will remain in place for New York City until Saturday night.
Meanwhile, part of Prospect Park in Brooklyn, New York, was engulfed by a brush fire on Friday evening, which has since been brought under control by the New York City Fire Department (FDNY).
Speaking at a press conference FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker commented that the fire had affected an “extremely dense” section of Prospect Park, adding that no adjacent structures had been affected.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams wrote on X, formerly Twitter, on Saturday, “New Yorkers, please remember that the risk of fires is HIGH today due to the dry and windy conditions. Smoke will also be lingering across our city today. During this time, air quality may be poor for sensitive groups.”
